Ruth Santee is an Oakland sculptor, installation and public artist whose work has been exhibited in museum, non-profit and gallery venues. She was born in Denver, CO in 1965. Santee received a BFA from the College of Santa Fe, NM in 1989 and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1993. Since that time, she has participated in numerous group exhibitions both locally and nationally. Her work was also seen in public installations for the San Francisco Arts Commission, Market Street Art in Transit Program.
Recently the University of Oregon, Eugene acquired Padded Chair + Ottoman, for their permanent collection. This large interactive sculpture has been installed in the ERB Memorial Student Union.
Santee is a 1993 recipient of the Cadogan Fellowship Award from the San Francisco Foundation and a 1994 recipient of a commission from the San Francisco Arts Commission. She has taught at the California College of Art, Oakland, CA; Saint Mary's College, Moraga CA; and UC Davis. Her work has been reviewed in publications including the Los Angeles Times, Oakland Tribune, San Francisco Examiner and Tea Party magazine.
